AAFCS Announces 2024 National Awards, Scholarship, Fellowships, and Grant Recipients

During the 2024 AAFCS Annual Conference, the following recipients were recognized for their excellence in FCS! 

National Leader Award

AAFCS is proud to announce Donna Graham and Jacqueline Holland, CFCS-HDFS as the recipients of the 2024 Leader award. The Leader award was established to identify and honor family and consumer sciences professionals who have made significant contributions to the field through their involvement with AAFCS. Donna and Jacqueline are vital to the success of our association and AAFCS is proud to honor them.

National New Achiever Award

AAFCS is proud to announce Kathryn Carroll, CFCS, CPFFE as the recipient of the 2024 New Achiever award. The New Achiever award was established to identify and honor emerging family and consumer sciences professionals who have exhibited the potential to make significant contributions to the field through their involvement with AAFCS. AAFCS is proud of Kathryn and her accomplishments.

Myrna Crabtree National Graduate Fellowship

AAFCS is proud to announce Virginia N. (Ginnie) Parker, CFCS as the recipient of the Myrna Crabtree National Graduate Fellowship. This fellowship was established through a generous bequest from Dr. Myrna P. Crabtree who taught classes in human development and held workshops to help teachers meet the needs of the local population. This fellowship is awarded to graduate students to promote participation in the AAFCS Annual Conference and AAFCS Certifications.

Jewell L. Taylor National Graduate Fellowship and Undergraduate Scholarship

AAFCS is proud to announce Emily Brill, CFCS as the recipient of the 2024 Jewell L. Taylor National Graduate Fellowship and Emily Pike as the recipient of the Jewell L. Taylor National Undergraduate Scholarship. The Taylor Fellowship and Scholarship were established through a generous bequest from Jewell L. Taylor, a dedicated family and consumer sciences professional for more than 50 years. She held positions as a county home demonstration agent and utility home economist, continuing her interest in AAFCS until her death.

Centennial Scholars Research Grant

AAFCS is proud to announce Jeong-Ju (Jay) Yoo and Mickey Langlais as the recipients of the Centennial Scholars Research Grant. The goal of their research is to “understand how cancer patients experience their body image, and how their body image contributes to their mental well-being”. The Centennial Scholars Research Grant was created in honor of the Association’s 100th anniversary. The fund that supports the Centennial Scholars Research Grant was established in 2008, thanks to challenge grants given by AAFCS Past Presidents Peggy Meszaros and Sharon Nickols.

Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) Family and consumer sciences or FCS is the field of study focused on the science and the art of living and working well in our complex world. The field represents many areas, including human development, personal and family finance, housing and interior design, food science, nutrition, and wellness, textiles and apparel, and consumer issues.
